- NAM AirA subsidiary of Sriwijaya Air, the third domestic largest Airlines in Indonesia, becomes RAI first launching customer to order R80 aircrafts (50 aircrafts as firmed order and 50 aircrafts as optional). NAM Air will operate R80 as a feeder for Boeing 737 which are currently being operated. RAI and NAM Air signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) at 26th September, 2013.
- TRIGANA AIR SERVICESAn Indonesian private own company, the specialist of turboprops services operator in eastern parts of Indonesia (Papua, Maluku, Kalimantan). In the years to come, Trigana intends to use R80 to enhance and upgrade their fleet and performance. Qatar Diaspora Supports the Development of BJ Habibie's Aircraft Design
Doha: The Indonesian Diaspora Community in Qatar supports crowdfunding efforts for the development of the R80 turboprop aircraft designed by the RI 3rd President, BJ Habibie.
This was conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, Muhammad Basri Sidehabi in a meeting with the diaspora with the delegation of PT Regio Aviasi Industri.
Crowdfunding itself is an alternative business funding method or it can be called fundraising to realize a project or social interest.
This R80 project requires funding, but until now all has not been fulfilled. Meanwhile, 55 percent of R80 financing comes from within the country, including through non-budget investment financing (PINA), the national private sector, crowdfunding, and vendors.
This aircraft project has officially entered into the National Strategic Project (PSN) through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 58 of 2017 concerning National Strategic Projects. The Perpres lists 248 projects that are included in the Acceleration of National Strategic Project Implementation program, including the R80 aircraft which is targeted to fly for the first time in 2022.
The manufacture of the R80 aircraft also has several parts that are produced domestically and some are imported from abroad, such as navigation equipment and radar. Apart from these components and the main engine, all of them are made and produced by Indonesia.
As written from the Indonesian Embassy in Doha to medcom.id, Monday, 20 November 2017, a number of airlines, such as NAM Air, Kalstar, Trigana Air, and Aviastar have expressed their interest in ordering a total of up to 155 R80 aircraft through a Letter of Interest.
Orders from NAM Air are 100 units, Kalstar 25 units, Trigana Air 20 units, and Aviastar 10 units. According to him, the advantages of this aircraft over its closest competitor, namely the ATR-72 used by Garuda Indonesia, are, among others, more efficient, comfortable, and economical, especially for short distances with a distance of about 1,400-1,500 kilometers.
Apart from Doha, the presentation on crowdfunding was also held in the city of Alkhor. According to one of the Indonesian diaspora figures in Qatar, Said Malawi, there are around 15 thousand foreign expatriates from 50 countries working in the Ras Lafan oil and gas fields. Most of them live in the Al-khor Community complex. The Indonesian community reaches 1,500 people and it is the largest Indonesian diaspora community in the world.
The Indonesian Community has 51 community organizations, all of which are under the auspices of the Indonesian Community Association in Qatar (PERMIQA) which has very potential financial resources to raise crowdfunding. According to estimates by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of Indonesian citizens in Qatar in 2015 was around 43 thousand, and a quarter of them were skilled workers.

IPI has attended the R80 Airlines Working Group
On November 16, 2017, at the Mercure Alam Sutera Hotel, the Indonesian Pilots Association was honored to be invited to the “R80 Airlines Working Group” forum by PT Regio Aviasi Indonesia (RAI).
R80 is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), contained in the attachment to Presidential Regulation No.58 of 2017 concerning Amendments to Presidential Decree No.3 of 2016 concerning the Acceleration of Implementation of the PSN which was signed on June 15, 2017.
The development of the R80 aircraft has entered stage II, namely the stage of detail design and prototyping so that the detailed configuration must be adjusted to the requirements of the operator, regulations, and trends in the future.
The forum which was also attended by several representatives of airlines, IPI was one of them that was asked for input in defining several aspects from the perspective of the pilot/airlines.
In providing input, IPI refers to standards under ICAO Annexes 6 and 8 as well as other ICAO documents relating to policies in aircraft design and operations so that they are under applicable regulations, authorities, operators, and also the interests of aircraft service users.
IPI also appreciates the good synergy with all stakeholders in implementation, especially those related to regulations, so that all parties comply and safety is realized and creates a sense of security and comfort for all, especially pilots in particular.
Furthermore, IPI will be involved in a more intensive and comprehensive Design Team up to the production stage. (AB)

Crowdfunding To Develop Prototype R80 Aircraft
BJ Habibie, Chairman of Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI) announced that his party is opening the opportunity for the public to be part of the R80 prototype aircraft development program through crowdfunding.
RAI has officially established a partnership with Kitabisa.com, a trusted crowdfunding platform. So that the public can take part in and support the R80 aircraft program, by accessing Kitabisa.com/pesawatR80.
Public involvement in crowdfunding apart from helping engineers develop the R80 aircraft is also a form of the campaign so that the general public knows about efforts to develop the national aerospace industry.
Any support from the Indonesian people will increase the possibility of RAI to get investment and government support. And of course, every Rupiah public contribution will also be used by the engineering team to develop the Prototype R80.
The plan is that the prototype will be tested in 2022. After passing the certification process, the new R80 will be mass-produced in 2025 and will serve short-medium-haul flights. Public support is needed so that this plan can be realized and can run according to plan.

In the Attachment to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 58 of 2017 concerning Amendments to Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016 concerning Acceleration of Implementation of National Strategic Projects, which was signed on June 15, 2017, indications of 55 new projects in addition to nearly 200 projects previously included in the category of National Strategic Projects.
Overall, the Presidential Decree Invention 248 projects included in the National Strategic Project Implementation Acceleration Program, including new projects that are well-known throughout the country.

Involving private parties
The main thing in the amendment to Presidential Decree No.58 of 2017 is that financing in PSN development can also be done through the government budget. "Proyek Stategis Nasional yang bersumber dari non anggaran Pemerintah sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (1) dikoordinasikan oleh Menteri Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional (PPN)/Kepala Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional (Bappenas)," reads Article 2 paragraph (4) of Presidential Decree Number 58 of 2017.
About the Regional Spatial Planning, the location of the National Strategic Project which is not following the regency/city spatial plan or the national strategic area spatial plan, according to Article 19 paragraph (3), the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR) / Head of the Land Agency National (BPN) can provide recommendations on the suitability of the PSN location layout.
Meanwhile, the determination of land for the location of PSN, according to Article 21 Paragraph (4), is carried out by the Governor. "Tanah yang telah ditetapkan lokasinya sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (4) tidak dapat dilakukan pemindahan hak atas tanahnya oleh pemilik hak kepada pihak lain selain kepada Badan Pertanahan Nasional," Article 21 paragraph (5).
About the period for determining the location, according to Article 21 Paragraph (6), has ended and the provision of land for the implementation of the National Strategic Project has not been completed, the governor shall renew the determination of the location of the National Strategic Project for 2 (two) years.

As to use domestic goods and/or services, according to Article 24 paragraph (2), the Person in Charge of PSN can cooperate with domestic national business entities and/or business entities that are committed to developing equipment and components, human resources, and technology transfer required in implementing PSN. PT Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI) has received an order for 155 R80 aircraft. Although the aircraft included in the National Strategic Project (PSN) are only scheduled to test and fly for the first time in 2021.
The orders came from NAM Air for 100 units, Trigana Air with 20 units, Kalstars 25 units, and Aviastar 10 units. "There are already 155 R80 units ordered through the LOI (Letter of Interest)" said the Commissioner of PT RAI, Ilham Habibie in his statement, Wednesday (15/2/2017).
The flight test scheduled for completion in 2023. "The first flight be in 2021. In late 2022 but no later than early 2023, flight testing and national certification will be completed," explained the son of the 3rd Indonesian President BJ Habibie.
The initial stage of making the R80 aircraft will be carried out in Bandung until several parts are formed that just need to be assembled. Furthermore, the process will take place in Kertajati, Majalengka, West Java. The location is in the Aerocity industrial area of Kertajati Airport or known as West Java International Airport. "At Kertajati Airport there will be a kind of industrial park. So the industrial area has a special section for the aerospace industry," said Ilham.
Currently, the process of building an aerospace industrial area in Kertajati is still in the stage of land acquisition. The aircraft assembly location in the Kertajati Airport industrial area was chosen to make the trial process easier. "The location will be there because the plane has to take off after being produced," said Ilham.

SINGAPORE - R80 commuter aircraft made by PT Regio Aviation Industry (RAI) is targeted to be airing in 2019 later.
"We are currently working on the detailed design for the next year. This includes determining the integration of all the systems, such as determining the engine of whom, and others," said a member of the Board of Commissioners of PT RAI, Ilham Habibie.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the Singapore Air Show 2016, on Wednesday, Habibie said commuter plane R80 has passed wind tunnel test in Puspiptek LIPI, in Serpong, Banten, although there are still some things that need to be resolved.
He stated, there are some definite advantages R80 than its closest competitor, ATR-72 series of Italian-French ATR. Among these are a different class, the design is more advanced, and more efficient to operate.
"In terms of better aerodynamics, have embraced the fly by wire. Although initially more expensive, but after that could be cheaper," he said.
Speaking of the engine, he said, PT RAI was still weighing whether to use Pratt & Whitney PW-150 or Rolls Royce AE-2100.

GMF AeroAsia (GMF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an aircraft manufacturing company from Indonesia, Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI) regarding the development of the R80 aircraft. This memorandum of understanding was signed by GMF President Director Richard Budihadianto and RAI President Director Agung Nugroho at the GMF Singapore Airshow booth, Thursday (18/2).
The MoU, which is valid for two years since it was signed, covers several aspects including aircraft maintenance program development, service facilities, and spare parts, human resource development (manpower), business development studies for maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) in Kertajati, West Java, as well as an authorized maintenance center, where GMF will later become the official maintenance center for R80 aircraft.
"This cooperation is a form of GMF's commitment to supporting national programs in developing the aviation industry in Indonesia," said Richard Budihadianto.
It was stated that this memorandum of understanding had a very broad potential to be developed, including conducting research and development in the MRO field as well as starting new business ventures in the future. “The R80 aircraft has good prospects. This certainly can have a good impact on GMF too, "added Richard.
The R80 aircraft is a turboprop aircraft made in Indonesia designed by Prof. Dr. Ing B.J Habibie. This aircraft is planned to be ready to undergo flight trials and certification in 2019. In facing these preparations, GMF played a role in providing full support to prepare for the maintenance of the R80 aircraft.
The growth of the aircraft maintenance market in Indonesia has very good prospects with an average market growth of 12.3% until 2020. To seize this market, GMF already has important capital in the form of more than 25 certifications from aviation authorities both domestic and international such as FAA, EASA, and CASA. The airline that operates mostly in the Kalimantan region, Kalstar Aviation, is reportedly interested in ordering the Regio Prop 80 (R80) aircraft. The plane is an aircraft made by PT Regio Aviasi Industri and is the successor to the N250 aircraft that was previously created by BJ. Habibie.
President Director of PT Regio Aviasi Industri Agung Nugroho said that the turboprop aircraft with a capacity of 80 seats has been in great demand by domestic airlines, one of which is Kalstar Aviation which plans to order as many as 25 aircraft to develop its business. In fact, according to Agung, Kalstar Aviation together with NAM Air have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI).
“Nam Air has ordered (LOI) 100 planes and Kalstar plans to buy 25 planes. This aircraft is for use on short-haul flights, ”explained Agung as reported by Tribunnews.com. Other airlines that are also interested and have provided input on the development of this aircraft are Citilink Indonesia, Wings Air, Sky Aviation, and Merpati. The prototyping of the new R80 aircraft will take place at the end of next year. After that, the aircraft will carry out various trials and certifications before it can be sent to the customer. This aircraft will likely be delivered to its customers and serve customers in 2018.
Kalstar Aviastar itself currently operates mostly using turboprop aircraft made in France, ATR, with the ATR 42 and ATR 72 types. This airline also operates Boeing 737 aircraft.

NAM Air, Sriwijaya Air Group Airlines plans to use the R80 (Neo N-250) aircraft currently being developed by PT Regio Aviasi Industri. The demand for aircraft units from airlines is getting bigger. Lion Air, for example, ordered 234 aircraft, which is one of the largest aircraft orders in Boeing history. Garuda Indonesia has also done the same. Indonesia's order is in the top world-class ranking. Of course, there are many reasons behind the order. Seeing this, we are interested in developing a similar aircraft through PT Regio Aviasi Industri (RAI) with the R80 aircraft. What were the reasons for your decision to manufacture the R80?
Indonesia is known as an archipelago with 240 million inhabitants. More and more people are used to airplanes, from the middle class to the lower middle class. Airplanes are now an affordable mode of transportation. This is the first reason. Second, there is no alternative. Even for a short route - say 300 km - people take it by plane. In Europe and the US, such distances are commonly traveled by land vehicle, either car or train. For us, aircraft is the best choice as a means of transportation in Indonesia for the short-haul segment.
What differentiates the R80 from other aircraft?
This aircraft is bigger when compared to similar aircraft. If the ATR type carries a total of 70 passengers, our aircraft can carry up to 80 people. This answers the need for larger aircraft. Meanwhile, the limited number of runways and airports makes aircraft with a larger capacity an option.
Then, the technology carried by the R80 is also different. We use a lot of electronic-based parts. The technology in the cockpit, for example, is completely electronic and digital. Also, some materials are partly different.
Besides, this aircraft also carries fuel efficiency. Thus, aircraft operators can save significant costs. This aircraft can make aircraft management 20% more efficient. We are also designing quality and unique after-sales service.
After obtaining the aircraft operation certificate permit, Nam Air officially operates. First flew commercially on 19 Dec 2013. with quite a lot of routes: Nam Air has prepared the first route, namely Jakarta-Pontianak round trip, while other routes are Yogyakarta-Pontianak, Surabaya-Palu, Surabaya-Pangkalanbun, Semarang-Pangkalanbun , and Palu-Luwuk.
To support this route, Nam Air operates two Boeing 737-500 fleets with a capacity of 120 seats. The passenger configuration is two classes, namely executive eight seats and economy 112 seats.
