It’s Okay, That’s Love is a 2014 Korean drama starring Jo In Sung, Gong Hyo Jin, Lee Kwang Soo, Sung Dong Il and Do Kyung Soo (DO of Exo).
I love Jo In Sung, but I am not sure how he would fare with Gong Hyo Jin in this drama. She was good in Don’t Dare to Dream with Jo Jung Suk though. But after watching, I was surprised how well she portrayed her character, and alongside Jo In Sung, they were perfect for their roles. After the 16 episodes, all I can say is I loved this drama. Why?
MENTAL ILLNESS
Very rarely do we see a drama tackling on this subject. I really appreciate this drama for bringing up issues on mental health; mainly observed on the two main leads, schizophrenia and sexual anxiety. How they came about experiencing these have been explained as well, and how they try to help each other overcome these disabilities. I’ve come to realize that each and everyone of us experience a mental issue at least once in our lives; may it be as simple as having difficulties accepting and giving forgiveness or having to worry about simple things in our lives. And how having someone can ease all these difficulties away.
REALNESS OF THE RELATIONSHIPS
These two are not the usual cute, lovey-dovey couple like we always see in other dramas. So are the friendships, the mother-child relationship and other connections portrayed here. They are REAL. They quarrel, they shout at each other, they make up, they cry, they disagree, they laugh, they hit each other, they love. But at the end of the day, you know they have each other’s backs. They stick together. They teach each other right from wrong. They’re going to care for each other despite the differences they have in the past.
TEARY-EYED MOMENTS
This was a rom-com I know, but I had a few. That time when Jae Yeol was begging Hae Soo to let him leave the hospital because he is not himself there. Or when he was convincing Hae Soo to leave and travel and don’t contact him anymore. When Hae Soo’s mom was telling her to leave, travel abroad and break it off with Jae Yeol. That moment he realized that he and Kwang Woo are one. But the most heartbreaking of all, was when Jae Yeol was putting on Kang Woo the shoes that Hae Soo got for him. That look in Kang Woo’s eyes, before saying his goodbyes, really got to me, and I lost it there.
CHEMISTRY
You remember that first scene in the talk show where they first met? They were trying to put each other off, but they were not fooling anybody. They have spark, they have chemistry and they were so cute together! Their interactions were natural. They way she gets annoyed at him and they way he just lets it go. The way they kiss, hug and touch each other was so natural.
THE SUPPORTING CAST
Everyone gave a superb performance. Lee Kwang Soo’s Park Soo Kwang and his undying love for Lee Sung Kyung’s character. How about Jo Dong Min and Lee Young Jin, and Jang Jae Beom, Jae Yeol’s older brother who has a big grudge over him for putting him in prison. Tae Yong, Jae Yeol’s best friend who betrayed him, and the characters portrayed by Kim Mi Kyung and Cha Hwa Yeon who played the roles of protective mothers. And of course, EXO’s DO, who played Jae Yeol’s “fan” who follows him around everywhere. Everyone here gave a realistic and good portrayal of the characters they were playing. They did not disappoint.
This was a good ride, something worth watching.
