World Cup: Paul Gascoigne will fly to Moscow for World Cup semi-final
Paul Gascoigne hopes to be in the Moscow crowd for England’s first World Cup semi-final for 28 years and, this time, crying tears of joy. He is due to fly to Russia on a private jet today to cheer on Gareth Southgate’s team against Croatia tomorrow.
Gascoigne became a star at the 1990 tournament; first through his displays in midfield and then his tears during the semi-final. Booked for a foul, and knowing he would miss the final if Bobby Robson’s team beat West Germany, he broke down. “I cried because it was the best six weeks I’ve had,” Gascoigne told Sky Sports News. “Being with my mates and waking up every day to train and play football.”
